Yak Pack Activity Bags

These kits give parents and children an opportunity to explore, create, and discover art while they travel through the galleries at RMA.

Children will practice careful looking, talking, drawing, writing, reading, sharing, and playing as they investigate the artworks on display.

Things parents can do:

  • Verbalize children’s actions to reinforce new vocabulary. Words to mention: shapes, colors, textures, actions.
  • Suggest new activities to expand creative possibilities
  • Support children’s imagination by modeling your own inventiveness
  • Encourage discovery
  • While ensuring that your child is safe, allow him/her to learn new concepts by exploring. For example, dumping all the letters out of the bin is a great way to learn about:
    • In / out
    • Empty / full
    • Right side-up / upside-down
  • Model positive museum behavior. Move around the gallery space carefully and quietly. Look at labels for information about the artworks. Ask an RMA guide if you have any questions.

You must sign out the Yak Packs and return them before you leave the museum.
