Family Days and Festivals

Family Days are special events held twice a year, usually in the spring and fall, celebrating a special exhibition with interactive performances, demonstrations, scavenger hunts, and much more. Additional Family Festivals and Events are programmed throughout the year


Expedition Cosmos!

Saturday February 13, 2010 

Join us all day for an out-of-this-world adventure.  See how different cultures from around the world have interpreted the cosmos by participating in art-making activities, story-telling tours, scavenger hunts, celestial dance performances, and a inter-galactic trip into a Starlab. 

 

Schedule of Events

Dancing Under the Stars • noon, 2 and 4 pm • *

Join dancers from Dance Theater of Nepal as they explore movement inspired by the stars and the elements in these 20 minute interactive performances.

 

Journey through the Universe • 1, 3 and 5 pm • Theater

Watch an amazing film about the exploration of the Universe designed by the American Museum of Natural History narrated by a Cosmic Guide.  Explore how scientists are creating new visualizations as they venture to map out the universe. 

 

Cosmic Crafts11 am - 5:30 pm* • Galleries

Create the elements of your own universe at creation stations throughout the museum. Sculpt stars, make relief prints, constuct mountains, gather galaxies, and then put them together to construct a 3-d mobile.

 

Story Telling Tours & Scavenger Hunt

1, 3 & 5 pm • Tours Meet at the base of the spiral

Join the RMA Teens and Guides as the take you on a story telling tour of the Himalayan Cosmos.  Complete a scavenger hunt to win a prize!

 

Starlab Presentations • 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30, 5:30 pm*

Join educators from NYSCI as they present different stories from the cosmos in a giant inflatable planetarium.
