In-School Programs & Partnerships

Resources for Learning

 

The Rubin Museum of Art offers K-12 schools new and inspiring ways to make curricular connections, inspire teachers, and expand learning opportunities. We welcome all school groups, and offer a range of programs to meet your students' needs.

Whether you schedule a guided tour for students, lead your own self-guided visit, participate in a professional development workshop for teachers, or collaborate with us on one of our extraordinary multi-session school programs, we can help you connect your students to the art and sacred traditions of China, India, Tibet, Nepal, and beyond.

The museum's school programs can enhance any subject area, including visual arts, English language arts, global studies, world communities, comparative religions, mathematics, and an array of social studies topics, as well as 21st Century skills like creativity, critical thinking, and global competency.

 

Museum Programs

Tours for School Groups
$50 per tour group / maximum 15 students per group (in addition to admission fees, free for NYCDOE schools and camps)

Tour and Workshop Packages
$150 per workshop/maximum 30 participants, grades K-12 (in addition to admission and tour fees)

A 60-minute hands-on arts workshop can be added to any school group’s tour.

Self-Guided Visits for School Groups
(Admission fees apply, free for NYCDOE schools)

Workshops for Preschools
$50 per workshop/maximum 15 children per group

A 60 minute session designed for of 3–6 year olds. Bring your preschool class or play group to the Rubin!

Home Schools: Extended Learning Series
$150 per student ($130 for members), 8 students necessary to run the program, maximum 12 students

The museum offers programs for home school students in a seven-week program.

Professional Development for Teachers
$500 for a 3-hour session

The museum hosts professional development sessions to help teachers of all levels explore exciting new ways to enhance student learning with the museum’s educational resources, programs, and exhibitions Workshops for educators at the museum include guided tours, hands-on collaborative activities, and curriculum development for the classroom and beyond.

Parent Involvement Workshops
$500 for a 3-hour workshop

Explore ways that parents and families can use museum resources to connect to their children’s school learning. Participating families work together to discover the museum’s collection of Himalayan art, and try out hands-on activities and art conversation strategies that foster creativity and communication.

Independent School Partnerships
$200 per school year

Become an Independent School Partner and gain access to many benefits including free guided tours for your students for the entire academic year.

Educator Open Houses

Each fall and spring semester educators are invited to discover the art of the Himalayas with the Rubin Museum of Art's Education Department.

 

In-School Programs & Partnerships

Thinking Through Art
Ten-session museum-school residency
$1500 per residency. Ten sessions each. Minimum two residencies required.

This is an in-depth, multi-session arts residency program. Rubin Museum of Art teaching artists work closely with classroom teachers to meet the needs of each unique classroom and school environment to implement projects that integrate visual art into classroom curriculum.

Himalayan Art Encounters
Three-session museum-school collaboration
$500

This enrichment program offers K-12 students and their teachers the opportunity to enhance their curriculum with two ninety-minute classroom visits from a museum educator and extended time to explore the museum’s galleries during a special ninety-minute tour.

Pre-Visit Lessons
Free in conjunction with a guided museum tour

This free program for grades K-12 brings the wonder of Himalayan art and culture right to your classroom! A 45-minute in-class interactive presentation led by a visiting museum educator may be scheduled free of charge in conjunction with a museum visit.

Independent School Partnerships
$200 per school year

  • There is a 24-hour parking lot on the corner of 17th Street and 6th Avenue. In addition, there are parking garages along 17th Street going towards Union Square.

  • Monday: 11 a.m – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Closed
  • Wednesday: 11 a.m – 7 p.m.
  • Thursday: 11 a.m – 5 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m – 10 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m – 6 p.m.

  • The museum is closed on Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s Day.

  • Museum members - Free
  • Gallery admission is free every Friday from 6-10 p.m.
  • Gallery admission is free for seniors (65 and older) on the first Monday of every month.
