University Students
Special Admission Fee: RMA has recently introduced a steeply discounted college student admission fee of $2 with college I.D., and offers free admission to everyone every Friday night from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Admission provides access to RMA's six floors of changing exhibitions and an array of engaging public programs. RMA also offers a special $7 student standby ticket for the Museum's special programs and events, including live performances, film screenings, and engaging discussions with special guests.
Apprenticeship in Museum Education Program: The Apprenticeship in Museum Education (AME) program at the Rubin Museum of Art provides essential hands-on skills to university students preparing for future careers in the arts, education, or global affairs. For more information, see the AME webpage.
Internships & Training: If you would like to gain valuable experience working in a museum environment, consider applying for an internship at RMA. Internships at RMA focus on a variety of departments and disciplines, including studio art, family programs, administration in museum environments, museum education in schools, and opportunities for multimedia and exhibition work. Internships at the Rubin Museum of Art may be used to fulfill academic requirements on arrangement with the individual college or university.
Docent and Volunteer Opportunities: Students of museum studies, eastern religion, or world history can receive valuable training through the RMA Docent Program. The Docent Program is dedicated to providing RMA visitors with an engaging and informative experience, leading visitors in an active exploration of Himalayan art through inquiry, clear and consistent presentations, and themes based on the docents' own interests and backgrounds. Docents organize and present tours, participate in educational programming, and make themselves available in the galleries to provide a more enlightened understanding of the museum, its collection, and special exhibitions. The Docent Program at RMA stresses a participatory approach to viewing, speaking about, and discovering the wonders of Himalayan art.
