Examine how artists have represented themselves realistically and in idealized ways through portraiture and create your own large-scale realistic and vividly imagined self portraits inspired by works at the Museum, off-site field trips, drawing from models, and talks with artists and curators.

Tradition Transformed: Teen Artists Respond

July 7 - 30, 2010, Wednesdays-Fridays 3 - 5 pm

Explore how contemporary artists respond to personal, political and cultural issues by integrating centuries-old traditional imagery, techniques and materials with modern influences and media.  Inspired by works in the Museum's contemporary art exhibition, trips to galleries and NYC museums, and talks with curators and contemporary artists, teens will create their own large-scale finished drawings and multi-media works.

  • The museum is closed on Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s Day.
