About the Speaker
Sophie Elgort is a fashion photographer and entrepreneur based in New York. Growing up in a family of artists, her mother an opera director and father a fashion photographer, she has been taking photos and directing scenes as a hobby since she can remember. Now, at the age of 26, her client list includes Elle, Financial Times, Tatler, Complex, Theory, Rent the Runway, La Perla, Buccellati, Bloomingdales, Topshop and IBM. Sophie also shoots many of the top designers’ New York Fashion Week shows each season.
In November 2011, Sophie was brought on by the Financial Times to create a new page that captures the looks of New York’s best dressed professionals, called Suits and the City, where she is the photographer, editor and writer of this daily photo blog.
Presently, she is excited to be working on a project that combines her photography and experience in the industry with her passion for business. This fall, along with her co-founder Monique Meneses, she is launching a website called Curated New York, a highly visual and elevated guided experience to the best of New York by two industry insiders. Sophie takes care of the photography, business development and social media for the site, while Monique, a fashion and beauty writer at Us Weekly, handles the writing and public relations.
Sophie received a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature with Two Foreign Languages from Brown University and currently serves as the co-president of the Brown University Club in New York.
