Artists on Art

Contemporary artists lead informal, topical talks within the museum's galleries on Friday nights at 6:15 p.m.

In conversation with Curatorial Fellow Beth Citron, speakers from New York and international contemporary art scenes interact with and informally discuss the rich artistic traditions of the Himalayas and surrounding regions in relation to their own practices and processes.

Comic Artists Spin the Wheel of Life

The Comic Artists Open Studio Series is a three-part program to complement the exhibition, Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics. Eight comic book artists will be chosen to visually interpret a segment of the Wheel of Life, a representation of Buddhist beliefs about life, death, and rebirth.

In the first part of this program series, each artist will take part in ‘Artists on Art’ where they will lead an informal talk with Assistant Curator, Beth Citron, and explore the galleries for inspiration to create preliminary sketches of their segment of the Wheel of Life.

For the second part of this series, the artists will begin creating live sketches in an open studio setting based on their inspiration from the talk and the galleries. During the open studio, the artists will have the opportunity to share their creative process with the public and to showcase their latest work. The artist will then be given some time to work in their own studios to create a final work of art from these sketches.

As a finale to the series, the completed segment from each artist will then be combined and exhibited as a whole in the Rubin Museum of Art.

Comic Artists Include:
Steven Guarnaccia, Friday, February 10
Katie Skelly, Friday, February 17

Josh Neufeld, Friday, February 24
