Taste of RMA tours offer museum visitors an introduction to Himalayan art, exploring process, materials, iconography, religion, and cultural influence along the way. Tours vary in theme each day, highlighting diverse works of art throughout the museum. Taste of RMA tours are free with museum admission and approximately 45 minutes to an hour long.

Gonkar Gyatso
Artists-on-Art/Tradition Transformed

Gonkar Gyatso was born in Lhasa, Tibet in 1961. He studied fine art in Beijing at the Central Institute for Nationalities from 1980-84, and received his MA in 2000 from the Chelsea College of Art & Design in London. In 2003, he founded the Sweet Tea House in London, the first gallery in Europe devoted to showcasing contemporary Tibetan art.

Talkingstick at RMA features writers, actors, comedians, and performers sharing true stories inspired by artwork from the Rubin Museum of Art collection, alongside museum guides who share stories from within the rich oral traditions of the Himalayas. Funny, sad, poignant, and cutting, Talkingstick at RMA provides opportunities to explore various perspectives on Himalayan art while experiencing the spontaneous and dynamic world of storytelling.
