Jonathan Demme is a filmmaker best known for his Academy Award-winning Silence of the Lambs (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress for 1991). Other notable feature films include Melvin and Howard (1980), Something Wild (1986), Married to the Mob (1988), Philadelphia (1993), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), and Rachel Getting Married (2008). His documentary films include Swimming to Cambodia (1987), Haiti: Dreams of Democracy (1987), Neil Young: Heart of Gold (2006), and Man from Plains (2007).
Polly Young-Eisendrath, Ph.D., is a Jungian analyst, a psychologist and an author. An experienced clinician and teacher, she is Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Vermont and Consultant in Leadership Development at Norwich University. She has published thirteen books that have been translated into more than twenty languages, including The Resilient Spirit, Women and Desire, and The Cambridge Companion to Jung. She is chairperson of the non-profit "Enlightening Conversations: Buddhism and Psychoanalysis Meeting in Person" that hosts conferences in cities around the USA. Polly is a long-time practitioner of Zen Buddhism (since 1971) and Vipassana (since 1998), and is certified as a facilitator in the Vipassana tradition of Shinzen Young. This is her second Red Book Dialogue, her first being with playwright John Patrick Shanley on October 23, 2009.
Special Performance - Mysterium
At 6:30 p.m., in the spiral, you will be able to witness a dazzling aerial and spoken-word adaptation of C.G. Jung's Mysterium Encounter from the Red Book. Interpreting the archetypes of Salome, Elijah and the Black Snake through aerial acrobatics and music, the artists of Cirque-tacular are joined by actor and magician Eric Walton in an engaging exploration of the Jungian dichotomy of forethought and feeling. Presented by Cirque-tacular Entertainment.
