Nicholas Ray, U.S., 1950 (94 min)

Humphrey Bogart plays hard-living screenwriter Dixon Steele. His talent for creating stories may be his undoing after he becomes a prime suspect in a murder case. Steele's barely suppressed rage bubbles to the surface and threatens to ruin his engagement, his sanity, and his freedom. The dynamics in evidence between Steele and love interest Laurel Gray (Gloria Grahame) is suggestive of the Anima, with the heroine meeting the hero in the same manner he meets himself.
