Rouben Mamoulian, U.S., 1931 (96 min)

A doctor's experiments serve to uncover the dual nature of man. Having been made prior to the enforcement of the production code, the audience explictly sees that the cause of the good doctor's transformation lies in sexual repression. Robert Louis Stevenson's famed tale brought to the big screen serves as a classic illustration of Jung's ideas about the Shadow and presents a cinematic rendering of psychological dissociation.
