Divorced fashion designer Petra develops an unhealthy fascination with a mysterious ingénue, Karin. As Karin's attentions begin to wander, Petra has a spectacular meltdown pushing away her family and friends in violent fashion. The movie starts to move beyond melodrama and towards the fantastic. Following the changing dynamics of Petra's relationships with other women, Fassbinder's story is an ironic tragedy of love sickness.

Frank DeCaro is a humorist whose Sirius Radio show has been onthe  air since 2006. He is the author of A Boy Named Phyllis: A Suburban Memoir (1996) and is a frequent contributor to The New York Times Arts & Leisure section, as well as the column "Style over Substance."
